Job Title: Minister of Music
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Position Type: Part-Time (Salary TBD)
Job Summary:
The Minister of Music is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading the music ministry of the church to glorify God, support the church’s mission, and facilitate Spirit-led worship. This includes overseeing all aspects of music in worship services, directing praise team and musicians, and nurturing musical talent within the congregation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Worship Leadership
- Plan and lead musical elements of weekly worship services in collaboration with the pastor(s).
- Select appropriate music (hymns, anthems, contemporary songs, etc.) that align with sermon themes and church calendar.
- Lead congregational singing and direct ensembles (praise team, band, etc.).
- Arrange or coordinate special music presentations during holidays (Christmas, Easter, etc.).
2. Team Oversight
- Recruit, train, and lead volunteers including vocalists, instrumentalists, sound/tech crew, and music leaders.
- Schedule rehearsals and ensure all participants are prepared for services.
- Provide spiritual encouragement and musical development to team members.
3. Administrative Duties
- Manage the music ministry budget, including purchasing music, instruments, and equipment.
- Maintain music library, equipment, and instruments.
- Coordinate with audiovisual staff/volunteers for sound, slides, and livestream requirements.
4. Special Events & Services
- Plan and lead music for weddings, funerals, revivals, and special church events as needed.
- Collaborate with other ministries (youth, children’s, seniors, etc.) to involve them in music-related activities.
5. Spiritual and Professional Development
- Maintain a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Stay updated on trends in worship music, theology of worship, and church culture.
Qualifications:
- Spiritual: A growing and mature Christian faith with a clear sense of calling to worship/music ministry.
- Musical Skills: Proficient in voice and at least one instrument (piano, guitar, etc.). Ability to read music and lead a variety of musical styles.
- Leadership: Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and equip volunteers.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Tech Savvy: Familiarity with worship software, sound systems, and livestreaming tools is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Weekends, holidays, and evenings will be required.
- Rehearsals and meetings during the week.
- May involve lifting instruments and equipment.
Evaluation & Accountability:
- Regularly reviewed by the Senior Pastor or designated supervisor.
- Evaluated based on spiritual leadership, team development, worship quality, and overall contribution to church life.
